Aidan Sitting On The Couch

Last night we went to our friends' house to watch this week's episode of Glee (DVR is awesome). Added bonus: our hosts have two beautiful dogs (plus two cats and two rabbits). They're not easy to photograph, but I did get a few shots of Aidan. He's a tall dog, and sometimes he sits on the couch. With his feet on the floor. And it's hilarious.

Our friends made a delicious dinner and I got to play with some animals. It was a great night. I love Glee!

Ellie

Just look at that face! Ellie belongs to our friends, and it's always such a treat to see her (and them, of course!). I miss having a dog in my everyday life, so I really enjoy spending time with with other peoples' pets.

On Campus

On Friday I spent the day at HBS, and it was awesome. In the morning I drove to school with Eric and I participated in a panel for incoming partners (accepted students' significant others). Five of us talked about our different experiences job hunting, offered advice, and talked about the amazing resources HBS has to offer partners.

The rest of the day I worked from school. It was so nice to be around people! I felt super smart, too, which was an added bonus. I was even able to have lunch with Eric while we listened to a few of his section-mates talk about living, growing up, and working in China. It was really fun and I learned some things.

After Eric's classes ended, we walked around campus and took pictures the school's windmills (top), flowering trees, and pretty buildings. It was just such a great day!

Spring Smells So Wonderful

Last week I saw the first lilacs starting to bloom around our neighborhood. I can't pass by one of these bushes without stopping to enjoy their delicious scent.

lilacs

It's nice, you know, stopping to smell the flowers. It's easy to rush through the day going from one activity to the next, but it's important to take some time to enjoy little things like this.

Have you been enjoying the springtime?

Spring Blossoms In Newport

On Saturday morning Eric and I went to a cute little diner caller Corner Cafe in downtown Newport. A hotel employee suggested we go there, and we really enjoyed the food. It was a short, but beautiful (and chilly) walk. We passed this house, and I just had to take a picture. Look at the tree and the white lattice railing and the shingled siding. Oh man. So cute!

The second picture is a close up of some of the flowers on the same tree. I simply cannot resist taking pictures of pretty flowers. Springtime is so fleeting; I want to hold onto it as long as possible because it's just so perfect.

I hope you had a beautiful Tuesday. Till next time!

Newport Ball

Friday was the Newport Ball, the second HBS formal we've attended. Eric got all suited up in his tux, and I wore a black satin cocktail dress. Dressing up is so much fun.

eric + me at the ball

There were good things and bad things about the ball, so I've made two lists:

Cons:
  • I was freezing for hours. It was raining, in the 40s at most, and we were in a tent for dinner. I had no idea we'd be in a tent, so I just brought a little wrap instead of the coat, scarf, and mittens that would have been appropriate.
  • Dinner was served at 2 different times, depending on section, so it was really hard to find my friends afterwards because there were 900 people there.
  • I wasn't a huge fan of the music.
  • It felt chaotic and I kept waiting for somebody to tell me what to do or where I should be (that never happened).

Pros:
  • I got to know a bunch of new people since I couldn't find my friends. I had some really great conversations and enjoyed the company.
  • I wore low heels so standing for a long time was not a problem (and I did stand for a really long time). Plus there were chairs, so when I wanted to sit it was easy (that wasn't the case at the Holidazzle).
  • It was a buffet, so I got to eat a lot of salad (the best part of the meal).
  • I eventually did find some of my friends, and we had a great time.
  • It was warm inside (once I discovered that there actually was an inside).
  • I got to wear a pretty dress and Eric got to wear his tux (and we looked great)!
As you can see, the pros outweigh the cons. I had a good time even if I was freezing and somewhat confused about the goings on!

Saturday we went on two mansion tours (no pictures allowed inside) with a small group while other people went to a wine tasting (which we heard was terrible).

The mansions were cool and it was a lot of fun. We carpooled in a station wagon, and I sat in the way back (you know, the backwards seat!) and took pictures from a different POV. After the tours we had Awful Awfuls (milk shakes) at the Newport Creamery.

That night was a dinner at the Clarke Cooke House for Eric's section. A few of his section-mates put a lot of effort into an end-of-year presentation which we enjoyed after a delicious meal. Sunday morning we met up with some friends from college for brunch and hanging out before heading back to Boston. Overall, good weekend.

HBS Chapel

Last night we went to the HBS Chapel for an awesome a capella concert. Two of Eric's classmates are in the all-male group called Heard on the Street (HOTS), and they were amazing. Like now-I-want-autographs good.

The Harvard Opportunes (the undergrad mixed a capella group) opened the show, and they were fantastic. Next, HBS' all-female group, the She-E-Os, performed. And then the boys came out and, like I said, they were just stunning.

Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me; I didn't have a great view from my seat anyway. BUT, it was my first time in the Chapel and I just had to whip out my Blackberry to get a shot of the greenhouse and waterfall that were in the entrance!

HBS Chapel

Wow, what a building! I mean, it's interesting from the outside (it's cylindrical), but the inside is a beautiful sanctuary.

Anyway, great concert. Wish you were all there.

Happy weekend!

Floating

When I have a bouquet I want it to last as loooooooong as possible. Some flowers die more quickly than others, and I don't want them to make everybody else look sad. As time passes I deconstruct it to make new, fresh arrangements. I'm sure many of you do this, too. I think it's pretty fun.

rose in a bowl

This rose was part of my birthday bouquet, but its stem wasn't looking too hot so I cut it off and let the bloom float in this little bowl of water. Pretty.

I hope you're having a sunny Wednesday. ☼

Opening A Gift

I got a birthday package from my Aunt Lisa + Uncle Joe, and it was so beautifully packaged that I took pictures as I opened it up.

It started with newspaper packaging, which was cool because they used the wedding announcements and drew little speech bubbles above the newlyweds to make it look like all of the couples were wishing me a happy birthday! Then there was a pretty little card and a box adorned with a gorgeous paper flower!

And last, but certainly not least, a wonderful necklace from laurel denise! My Aunt Lisa has a long history of giving me awesome necklaces, and this year was no exception. This one has a glass pendant that says dream, so that's pretty much perfect for me.

Thanks Lisa + Joe, you guys rock my socks off!

Spring Blossoms

How about some color for this cloudy day? I took these on Wednesday, when it was almost 90°F here!

Now that it's back to normal spring temperatures, it's feeling a little chilly. And today the clouds are keeping the sun away. Looks like it's supposed to come back tomorrow though!

Enjoy your weekend!

Drumlin Farm, Spring 2010

On Saturday we visited Drumlin Farm. All of the baby animals are born in spring, but we usually don't make it there until a little later in the season. It was totally worth it; the lambs and kids were so sweet.

lamb under heat lamp

We're pretty sure this lamb was only about a week old. It was laying under a heat lamp, which is why the light is red.

kids playing

The baby goats (kids) were hilarious. They ran back and forth, butted heads, and even fell a few times. We watched them playing with each other and testing out their little legs for a long time.

head buried in the hay

This sheep must have been really hungry, because every time it took a bite it buried its entire head in the hay!

It's a little blurry, but I really like this picture a lot. Love it, actually!

Cloudy Spring Day

Yesterday, I took the morning off from my day job and brought some of my newer ELM designs to Rugg Road Paper Company (they ordered some cards last spring). They liked my stuff and placed an order; I'm so excited! If you're in Boston, they should be available in the store in 2 weeks or so.

Anyway, yesterday was a cloudy day, but that didn't keep me from noticing all the stunning trees in (on?) The Common. Isn't spring the best?!

After my jaunt downtown, I had a few errands to run in Brookline before getting back to work. While I was walking home, I was dodging raindrops every now and again, but it was really fun (and awesome to spend some time away from my computer). Plus, I saw some more trees in bloom.

Birthday Bouquet

Eric got me a beautiful bouquet for my birthday. Now that's it's been a few days I've broken it up into two vases, to keep the flowers looking fresh, but it was a really gorgeous arrangement!

The last few days have been so busy. Mostly because it's been so beautiful that I've been spending every spare minute outside in the glorious sun! Saturday we went to Drumlin Farm to see the baby animals. I took a lot of photos, but most aren't that great. I'll post one or two as soon as I get a minute to go through them. Sunday we had Easter with Eric's family and some of their friends. I wore a dress and everything! It was fun (plus, there was carrot cake for dessert in honor of my birthday - awesome, right?).

There are a few more photos of my pretty, pretty flowers on flickr, if you're interested!
