Clocks Change

On Friday, I documented the light as I left work at 5:00 and when I got home at 6:00.

5 o'clock + 6 o'clock before we changed the clocks

We changed the clocks yesterday, and what a difference a change in the time can make. It was awesomely sunny at 6:00pm today.

Enjoy the sunshine, friends!

Autumn 2011

Autumn is here, for real. Halloween has come and gone (yay candy!), and now it's dark when I leave work in the evening. Thank goodness for my new key chain flashlight, since I can't see our doorknob without it!

rain boots in autumn

Today was quite lovely, but we've have several cold days and a whole lotta rain. Even some snow here in Belmont (much more to the west).

How's autumn treating you?

Dollar Store Poppies

Hello! It's been a long time since I've written here, and I miss my blog so much. I'm getting a ride to work this morning, so I have a few minutes to spare. What great fortune!

fabric poppies from the dollar store

I bought these flowers at the dollar store over the weekend. I got them for somebody in particular, but they don't know about it yet. It's a bit of a joke, and I hope they make her smile.

Anyway, they really did look quite lovely in the sunlight the other day. Goodness, orange is beautiful. That's all I'm sayin'.

Down By The Water

Oh gosh! This is the longest I've ever gone without posting. A lot's been happening around here, lately! I started a new job the week of Thanksgiving, and I no longer work from home. I now commute over an hour each way and I work 9-5. I'm loving my new job, and I'm busy every minute I'm there. When I come home, I eat dinner and then work on Everything Little Miss projects (I'm posting over on that blog more regularly, so you may want to take a peek and see what I've been up to!). I'm getting used to my new routine, and things have slowed down a little now. I'm hoping to get back into posting here at least once or twice a week, because I miss it!

eb in cold spring, ny

I took this picture the Saturday following Thanksgiving. That's my cousin you see there, and we were in Cold Spring, NY. It was a beautiful day, so we took a little walk down to the water. It was pretty windy and cold, so we stayed just long enough to snap a photo or two.

Looking Backward

Sometimes it's worth it to look backward. To stop and enjoy the full 360° view.

I took this picture on our drive home from New Jersey the Sunday before last. The sunset was stunning.

Mount Greylock

On the 2nd, while we were in North Adams, we drove to the top of Mount Greylock with my sister and brother. It was Eric's first time to the top, and it was the most gorgeous day for the trip!

Mount Greylock is the highest point in Massachusetts, and there's a beautiful view from the top. I'm still thinking about it more than a week later!

Where Have I Been?

It's been just under a week since my last post, but it feels longer. I just haven't been taking many pictures. Simple as that.

sunset at HBS

I spent yesterday afternoon working from HBS, since I was nearby after running some errands in Inman Square and Harvard Square. I took this picture from the 3rd level of the parking garage, as we were leaving campus. I really needed a day in a different environment; a day of sun and a sparkly sunset.

Harvard Stadium

Last night we had the first HBS Partners book club gathering of the new school year. My friend Daniela hosted, and she and her husband live on campus. The bus I take to HBS drops me off right outside Harvard Stadium, and it was stunning last night.

harvard stadium

The sunlight, blue clouds, and the blue sky sure made for a pretty picture. I like how the cyclist on the right is just entering the frame, too.

Book club was super fun, by the way. There were some newcomers and only one person read the book; we spent the whole time catching up and talking about our summers. We also ate a lot (or too much, in my case). It was great!

Sunset In Vineyard Haven

Since we're leaving a few hours, it seems appropriate to share a sunset picture (get the metaphor there?).

sunset in vineyard haven - 19 august 2010

Last night we went to one of our secret spots to watch the sunset. The ride is a bumpy one, reminiscent of a roller coaster. And then at the end, you get out of the car to watch Mother Nature make some magic. We brought drinks (peach Izze for me, ginger ale for Eric + Will) and sandwiches for the show. After we ate, we got out the fishing pole; that's Eric in the picture.

Le sigh. Goodbye.

P.S. Still more Vineyard photos to share. Wait for it.

Sunrise In Vineyard Haven

Yesterday morning I woke up, looked out the window, and practically flew out of bed. I raced downstairs, grabbed my camera, and ran down the three flights of stairs to the beach without ever looking at a clock. But I'd have to guess it was about 5:45, because look what I saw:

Holy moly! Starting the day with such beautifully pink perfection is pretty awesome. There was no way I could go back to sleep after that, so I started working by 6:30. Next month I'll be sending out my very first Everything Little Miss newsletter, so I worked on my newsletter layout and wrote a bit of the content. It turned out to be a very productive morning!

Waking Up

I'm not sure why I'm so sleepy this morning.

waking up

But waking up wasn't too challenging, since I had this pretty view. I took the picture with my blackberry when I got out of bed at 7:00 am. Unfortunately, I couldn't capture the amazing breeze to share with you on the blog. You'll just have to use your imagination, but believe me when I tell you it's downright heavenly!

This week's Lost in Thoughts is live; don't forget to take a peek for some inspiration on this fine day!

Seagull At Sunset

Eric is home. Let me rephrase that: ERIC IS HOME!!!!!!! That's better. :) He got home around 5:30 on Saturday night, and it has been so, so great.

Sunday night we got to enjoy this gorgeous scene together. Everything felt peaceful and right. Still does.

Yellow + Sunny

More flowers from the photo walk I took yesterday morning. These were just so pretty bathed in sunlight.

I'm pretty sure these are Black Eyed Susans. They're like the nieces and nephews of Sunflowers.

Birthday Party From Afar

Most of the time, it's easy to forget that I live in a city. Our tiny road has several small apartment complexes and the surrounding streets are filled with similar buildings and a good number of multi-family homes. It's quiet around here, and that's pretty great. But we don't have a yard, or even any grass. Just some weirdly fenced-in wood chips out front, and a parking lot in the back. So in the summer, if I want to spend some time reading in the sun, I have to pack a bag and walk a few blocks to the park. I am joined by others who read and picnic and listen to their iPods on towels and blankets scattered all over the hill. We're all there for the same reason, I presume: to spend some time outdoors and it's closer than the beach.

On Saturday, there was a little birthday party going on at the house right next to the park. There were a bunch of kids running around chasing balloons and playing games. It was an overcast afternoon, so there weren't many people sunbathing and the kids had a lot of space. Birthday parties used to be so awesome with all the fun decorations, games, arts + crafts, and running around like maniacs.

I only had my Blackberry with me, so this is the best picture I could get from a distance. I polaroid-ized it, which made it a little awesome-er.

Floating

When I have a bouquet I want it to last as loooooooong as possible. Some flowers die more quickly than others, and I don't want them to make everybody else look sad. As time passes I deconstruct it to make new, fresh arrangements. I'm sure many of you do this, too. I think it's pretty fun.

rose in a bowl

This rose was part of my birthday bouquet, but its stem wasn't looking too hot so I cut it off and let the bloom float in this little bowl of water. Pretty.

I hope you're having a sunny Wednesday. ☼

Quidditch In The Park

Yesterday Eric and I spent some time downtown. The weather was beautiful, so we walked around quite a bit. As we passed through The Common, Eric spotted a Quidditch game. A. Quidditch. Game. What great fortune! In case you're living under a rock, Quidditch is a made-up game from the Harry Potter series that's played while flying on broomsticks. These days there are leagues and they play competitively. On broomsticks. On the ground. You better believe I took pictures.

Unfortunately, we couldn't hang around long enough to see the snitch in action. I wish we could have though, because I've heard that sometimes they glue a yellow ping pong ball to a cross country runner and try to catch him. I would have loved to have seen that. Click here to see a video about the sport (via @evolution20).

Crocuses

Yesterday was the first day since we changed the clocks ahead that it wasn't pouring. Not only did the rain hold off, the sun was high and the sky was blue, blue, blue!

I guess these little guys decided the weather was good enough to make a showing. Um, hello spring!

crocuses

I took this picture last night around 5:30, when it still felt like mid-afternoon it was so bright (though these flowers where in shadows). At 7:00, when Eric and I were walking home from our errands, it was still light out. What a difference daylight savings time makes!

Was your day as sunny as mine? Did you do anything to celebrate (like a nice walk)?

Almost Sunset

I took this picture on Saturday from the end of our road in North Adams. One of the great things about living on a hill is the view.

close to sunset

It's so nice to see the mountains! They're small mountains, especially compared to those out west, but they're home to me. They change color depending on the time of day or time of year; you can't tell me that's not cool!

Cup Of Tea

Now that spring is getting closer, the sun streams in our living room window and floods our couch with light in the early afternoon. I like to sit in the warm, bright, cozy spots while I eat my lunch. I'm lucky enough to work at home, so I get to do this on a daily basis - weather permitting of course.

cup of tea

Today, after I ate my lunch (and waaaaaay too many Valentine's Day sweets), I made myself a cup of tea and enjoyed the sunbeams for a few minutes. Sometimes it's nice to just sit for moment.

Happy Friday + happy weekend.

Longer Days

This afternoon I looked out the window and I couldn't believe how light it was outside! At 4:30, it was really and truly bright out. It was such a nice little discovery.

sun

I'm one of those people who enjoys winter, but the short days are hard. I look forward to longer days just as much as everybody else. ☼

I took this picture in 2003 at the Tate Modern in London.

In other news, I updated the blog layout. I've added pages along the top and expanded the post area so we can display bigger images. Hope you like it!

*Thursday is Lost in Thoughts day over at Everything Little Miss. Go get inspired!
