Longer Days

This afternoon I looked out the window and I couldn't believe how light it was outside! At 4:30, it was really and truly bright out. It was such a nice little discovery.

I'm one of those people who enjoys winter, but the short days are hard. I look forward to longer days just as much as everybody else. ☼

I took this picture in 2003 at the Tate Modern in London.

In other news, I updated the blog layout. I've added pages along the top and expanded the post area so we can display bigger images. Hope you like it!

*Thursday is Lost in Thoughts day over at Everything Little Miss. Go get inspired!

Brighton, England

In 2003, Eric and I were studying abroad in London, England. At one point, we spent a day in Brighton. It was cold the day we went, but the pier was beautiful and we spent quite a bit of time on the rocky beach. I remember being relieved to be out of the city. We could look out over the ocean and our view wasn't interrupted by anything. I was craving time away from buildings, and that day in Brighton was just what I needed.

Today I'm wishing we were at the beach.

In Case You Didn't Know

This sign is from the subway system, or Tube, in London.  I assume the purpose is to allow people a chance to think twice before attempting to walk up the stairs.  We don't actually remember who took this photo, but I'm taking credit via this post.  I think it'd be nice if everything was labeled in this manner.

Smat Ka

I took this photo from a cab in Boston on Sunday afternoon as we were headed home from our vacation. I noticed this Smart car (the small red one) because they were popular in London when we were studying abroad in 2003 (it took a long time for them to catch on over here!). I was absolutely delighted to see the license plate, which reads "SMAT KA." It was a wonderful way to be welcomed back to Boston!

Crumpets!

I don't know anything about this store, but I think they have the cutest name! I love the deep blue of the storefront and the fact that their sign is old fashioned.

In my experience, crumpets are eaten with tea in the UK. Going to afternoon tea in London was one of my favorite things, so this sign sort of makes me feel warm and fuzzy! From the little I can see through the store window, I'm guessing they're going for that English vibe.

P.S. That's The Schwarz's car reflected in the window!
