JHill Design Studio Opening

Last night Eric and I headed over to South Boston (Fort Point) for JHill Designs' studio opening. It was really exciting to see Jennifer, the talented woman behind JHill Design, and her new work space. I forgot to bring my camera, but I had my blackberry, so I was able to get a few blurry photos. Stupidly, I didn't take one of Jennifer! What was I thinking?

Anyway, it was fun. And there were dogs!

We don't get over to South Boston very often, so I really like going there because the streets seem full of mystery since I don't know what to expect around the next corner.

New Inspiration Board

Now that I've rearranged the apartment, I have space for an inspiration board beside my desk. I'm always finding things in catalogs and tearing them out and sticking them in weird places. Now I'll just put them right onto the board! So cool. Plus, I'll add my own sketches and notes. I'm just starting out, but I think it'll be full of gorgeous things one day really soon. 

I find many of the images and words that inspire me online, so they probably won't make it to the board because I don't want to waste paper by printing them (never fear, I have an inspiration folder on my computer). It's cool how many beautiful inspiration boards, lines, and folders can be found online. Do you have one?

2009 Desk Calendar By JHill Design

Sara gave me this beautiful desk calandar from JHill Design. It's part of JHill's Places I Have Never Been collection. You should definitely check out the website, because they have some really great designs. You can see my absolute favorites here and here (hint hint). JHill Design is based in Jamaica Plain, MA.

I love my little calendar, but I'm slightly shocked that we're already so far into January! Do you know what happens one week from today?

$$$Max Money$$$

I've been so busy that I'm still unpacking my bags from when I was home for the holidays. It's fun though, because I'm re-discovering my gifts! My brother (age 14) was trying to think of what he could give us that we would all like. He concluded that everybody wants money, so we all got $400 in $$$Max money$$$. Hahaha. Excellent present. 

Stand With A Dog

On a bathroom door, you will often find a picture of a man or a woman - these don't tell us to do anything, but they still gives us information. But don't you think this is a funny sign? What does it say? Stand with a dog! 

Wort Hit

I spotted this sign hanging on a house in the Gingerbread community on Martha's Vineyard. Like many houses on the Vineyard, the houses in this community are named. The majority have cutesy names, like The Pink House, but I found this one a little confusing. I'm fairly certain the artist ran into spacing problems, which resulted in a sign reading Wort hit, rather than Worth it.

Both names raise questions:

• Why would you hit a wort or name your house after a wort?
  OR
• What is worth it? The house? The oddly colored piece of wood?

Stop

These instructions are simple enough, but who are they for? Any woman who happens to walk by? Or is it for one woman in particular who just has one baby after another? It could be commentary about overpopulation or the writer just doesn't like babies. 

I'll never know.

Clean Up After Your Dog

As if this sign wasn't hilarious enough on its own, somebody went ahead and made edits. 

The person who made the speech bubbles was probably standing around waiting for their dog to do their business and thinking exactly what they wrote. 

The smiley faces are mystifying, and luckily they're fading away. 

As for the sign itself: at the bottom it says "$25.00 TO $200.00 FINE." Does anybody else think that's really funny? How do they decide how great or small the fine should be? Does it correlate with the size of the dog? I hope so!

Under Lock & Key

Do you think you'll ever be able to trust a storage facility that doesn't look like a chained and padlocked castle? I know I won't! If I store my stuff here, I can be certain that no criminals will be able to get past the chainmail-wearing guards and my belongings will be safe. The name alone (Fortress) inspires a deep sense of security, don't you think?

Wrong Way, Dude

This sign doesn't make any sense. I think it's hilarious to have an arrow pointing to the right when the man above is clearly walking to the left! Oops.
