Random Tuesday Thoughts

randomtuesday
One night last week, just as I was drifting off to sleep, I was jarred awake by a loud noise follwed by a woman's voice: "BEEEEEP. LOW BATTERY." Say what? I asked Eric if he heard it and if it sounded like it was coming from our apartment. When he said yes, we both knew we weren't dreaming so he went to investigate. It was our smoke detector! I didn't know they could speak. We were able to scrounge up 3 AA batteries and shut her up. I'm sorta glad she spoke up while Eric was home because it was really freaky.

If you're looking for an awkward way to start a conversation, you can use this: I was thinking of you in the shower this morning. I've definitely said that (and then cringed because I realized it just didn't sound right).

Guys, I found this fun website called Wordle. You can either enter a bunch of text OR use your blog RSS feed and make a fun word cloud. It's cool, really. Try it.

Last week I mentioned that I rearranged our apartment. If you're interested and you missed the insanely short follow-up slide show, you can check it out here.

Check out the Everything Little Miss blog to see my newest custom design! It's an engagement party invitation. All pink and cream and yummy.

I took this photo on my birthday. Lately I've been really interested in structures (like bridges). This deconstructed building is in Downtown Crossing, and it's massive and impressive. I have no idea what the plans are for this site, but I couldn't resist the photo.

Note: I LOVE when you guys comment! So thank you, thank you, thank you for all off the comments the past few weeks! I'm working on being a better commentor - I know I've left comments for some of you - but I do check out your blogs.

Check out The Un Mom and Baby Boogers for more totally random thoughts.

  1. A smoke alarm that talks? Now I've heard everything...well, I guess technically I haven't, since ours only does the annoying random beeping when the batteries are low... ;)

I've started a conversation like that before - does tend to be a bit awkward! ;)

I haven't tried Wordle yet, guess I should join in the cool fun... ;)

Great job on the rearranging - wanna come help rearrange a few rooms at my house? J/K! ;)

That is a cool picture! It'll be interesting to find out what they're actually building - you know, besides a building. ;)

    Happy RTT! :)

  2. Yes...talking smoke alarms are a little alarming (yes -- pun intended! HAHA.)

And I don't know if I've ever begun a conversation quite that way ... but I could see how it might lead to some awkwardness! I'm sure to do it some time ... I'm the queen of awkward conversational openers!

And thanks for visiting my blog today! I totally appreciate it!

  3. A talking smoke alarm?! Now that's just weird! People couldn't figure out that the loud annoying beeping meant that you needed to change the batteries???

I tried wordle a few weeks ago. I discovered that I say "just," "totally" and "hubby" a lot on my blog! lol

  5. Interesting thing to say about the shower. Almost like too much information.

  8. Thanks for the Wordie link! Looks like fun.
Thinking of you in the shower this morning ~~~ sheesh! It always comes out the wrong way, doesn't it?!

    Have a great Tuesday!

  10. I love the idea of a talking smoke alarm especially since ours like to go off at random times of the NIGHT. Never during the day of course. It's always just as you get to that point of sleep when a feather hitting the floor wakes you. And, nothing is more precious then walking around the house {half naked} trying to find which detector is the one causing the problems while hoisting yourself up a ladder with a broomstick to reset the dumb thing.

    Ok - I'm on a tangent ...

    Happy Tuesday!! =)

  12. Coming by from Keely's RTT's. We have one of those talking smoke detectors, too. And ours always likes to die in the middle of the night, thus waking me up in a panic that someone has broken in.

  13. Talking smoke alarms? That's just crazy. Next thing you know she'll be taking over all the electrical appliances and running the house. Spooky!

  14. You worry me going near these construction sites. Take precautions. Wear a hardhat or something.

I'm going to try that phrase...at completely inappropriate moments. Sounds like fun!

  15. That looks like a building left behind at the movie set of "Day After Tomorrow," like it's waiting for a hurricane to strike.

  16. I tried the whole Wordle thing and it only made me mad because it was totally boring. I think I need to step it up a notch.

  17. Uh, if my smoke detector starts talking while I'm trying to sleep I might have to punch it in the face. I would assume it has one, if it's talking.

  18. I did not know smoke detectors talked either cool i am going to find out how many other people know this fact

  19. Ooh, nice picture! I love the starkness and the clean lines of it!
A female talking alarm? I would rather hear Pearce Brosnan. Can that be arranged? I will be more likely to replace my batteries on time then.
